WHAT IS EFT?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) was developed in the US, in the early 90's by Gary Craig. Gary’s theory is that the "cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.” People refer to it as being like conventional therapy with a physical element, like massage therapy with an emotional element, like taking a pill with no side effects and like conventional therapy without the need for substantial amounts of time and money. 

EFT is a routine of tapping, holding, or rubbing a series of points around the upper body, whilst focusing on a certain situation or issue. These points correspond to acupuncture points on our energy meridians; hence it being known as acupuncture without needles! The meridian system is a concept in traditional Chinese medicine and are paths through which the life-energy known as “qi” flows. Blockages in this flow, cause imbalances and dis-ease within the body. The stimulation of these points triggers the energy flow in the meridians and in doing so, in combination with other elements of EFT, dissolves the blockage altogether. This means the memory of the issue remains, but the charge previously connected to it, is gone. A practitioner will hold space for you in a safe place, while gently allowing these inner conflicts to surface without re-experiencing the original trauma.

What are the benefits of EFT?

This technique creates positive shifts in all areas of our lives. Core and limiting beliefs can disappear and general stress and anxiety can turn to relief and calm. Examples of what you can overcome with EFT are

  • Financial blocks

  • Confidence and self-worth issues

  • Issues in relationships with partners, friends, family, and work colleagues

  • Issues related to public speaking, concentration, competitions, exams, and interviews

  • Phobias like fear of heights, flying, enclosed spaces, and driving

Shifts can be experienced in minutes, but it can take several sessions to work through deep-rooted issues. Whilst EFT is something anyone and everyone can do, there are times when it is advisable to do this with a qualified practitioner to avoid abreactions (i.e., a re-living of a trauma), as well as safely and gently guiding you through the process.

What can you expect when having EFT?

The session as a whole

Every practitioner is different, but here is what you can expect at Aura Storm.

 

When you arrive, we will go upstairs to my little sanctuary. I have created a space that is cosy, calm, and comfortable so that you can feel separate from the world outside for the brief time you’re here. Following some form completing, I will go through EFT briefly and cover any questions you may have. 

 

Your session is not timed, but EFT usually lasts around 1hr, but it’s best to allow for a total of 1 – 1.5hrs for your session.

The session itself

Once you are sat comfortably, we will begin by going through a couple of simple, gentle movements, to help get energy flowing in your body. This will help you to relax and centre yourself, allowing you to gather your thoughts and fully connect to your mind, your body, and the space with which you are in at that moment. The EFT will naturally follow on from there, as we discuss anything you feel you want to talk about. This can be as little or as much as you feel comfortable to do, however the more specific you are, the more effective EFT is. Due to being more connected to yourself, you may notice emotions, tension, or have a more focused awareness on a certain part of your body, that you didn’t have before. This is what your body is highlighting to you that needs working through, so roll with it. Sometimes I might ask you something which feels unrelated or just downright silly (i.e., what colour would it be? What shape is it? If it were a movie, what would you call it?). As we move through the session, things will shift, change, and develop or reduce. This is perfectly normal, and I ask that you simply trust the process, and know that this is all part of your session. Your session is completely confidential, so please know you are in a safe space.

What do you, the client, need to do during EFT?

Simply relax without any expectations or focus on a particular outcome. Be open and trust the process whilst enjoying the healing time you have devoted to yourself.

What can you expect following a session?

EFT may be a powerful technique, but it really doesn’t have too much of an impact on your body following a session. EFT helps to calm your nervous system down, so despite it potentially bringing up emotions for you, you tend to walk out of the door, feeling right as rain. 

 

However, as you can imagine, processing emotions and releasing built up energy, can make you feel slightly lethargic or just out of sorts a little straight after. Therefore, I still always advise you to try and follow the simple aftercare advice given following your session (i.e., walking, drinking water).

Crystals are believed to have frequencies at which they vibrate, that help balance the environment and the chakras, which are basic, fundamental aspects of our being. They’re believed to be powerful, healing tools which can support the healing of physical and mental ailments, as well as aiding in meditation, and create a more positive environment in the home. I have crystals perfectly placed around the treatment room to help boost your overall experience.
